The City of Cottonwood is aware residents are awaiting further instructions on the steps that will be taken to reopen the local economy. In their address to residents, Cottonwood recognizes, the first step for business owners is to plan and prepare.

‘The world can change in the blink of an eye, and we have all seen proof of that in the last couple of months. It goes without saying that the City of Cottonwood is eager to get the local economy back up and running. We have and will continue to follow the Governor’s lead on the reopening strategy and timeline, with public health and safety as the top priority.

When the economy does reopen, it is critical to continue with physical distancing and hygienic safety measures, and to step up disinfecting efforts during what the Governor called a time to “practice responsible behavior and prepare for a new temporary normal.” We anticipate the guidance to begin reopening will come soon, so we’ve outlined some steps local business owners should be taking to get ready.

Guidelines for Business Owners

The City encourages you to take time to plan for your employees’ and customers’ safety. Upon reopening, things are going to be different than they were before the COVID-19 pandemic, so let’s take measures now to ensure appropriate planning and business strategies are in place. Things that you should be ready for are:

  • Increased disinfecting techniques: take time before, during, and after business hours to disinfect all surfaces that people will come into contact with.
  • Provide appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to your employees: make masks and hand sanitizer easily accessible for your employees, and encourage frequent breaks for hand washing.
  • If employees are feeling unwell insist that they stay home.
  • Help customers practice hygienic behavior while in your establishment: provide support to those who wish to visit your establishment but may have come without the proper protective gear.
  • Exemplify responsible behavior: set an example for your employees to follow.
  • Practice CDC recommendations both at home and at work: practice physical distancing of at least six-feet,  wash hands frequently, get lots of rest, and eat healthy. Also protect yourself and others by wearing a mask when out in public. It remains imperative that our most vulnerable community members continue to avoid public spaces.

Remember – there could be a learning curve for business owners as well as the general public – so let’s be patient and respectful of one another. “We are all in this together!”

Some restaurants that are providing take out are not having their employees wear masks I am the parent of one such employee and do not want to jeopardize her job by saying something to the owner. Is there someone available to recommend this to business owners who are not following the guidelines?

  2. Robert Alonzo says:

Why not consider the area like Yavapai county that has very few cases separately than Maricopa or Pima counties. Are our businesses being “punished” because of covid19 cases in other parts of the state?

I would like to city officials to take upon themselves and find the ones that are open people are everywhere not wearing masks think that they’re above the law and have their business is open I don’t care if it’s Walmart Ace home depot supermarket’s a jewelry store antique stores whatever it may be they need to keep it closed in less there’s food we will never get over this and less it is brought to our attention. We have been in business 36 years and we are abiding by governor Duse’s rules and it’s pretty sickening out there to see what’s going on in the little hubbub tone of cottonwood Arizona where people think they are above the law it’s sad and it’s pathetic. I wish the city officials would give these people a fine of $2500 per not going by the rules I’m sorry but we’re not making a living and they should not be either by taking they are above the law now Walmart they can rope off all the areas that are not supposed to be used the only parts that supposed to be open to Walmart is the grocery store and pharmacy they’re not going by the law and there’s another jewelry store in town that’s not going by the law home depot no one’s wearing masks it’s sad it’s pathetic and I want this virus to go away and we cannot let it if they don’t go by the law aces same thing I’ve never seen so many people at aces in my life and that 1 person employee is going by the law everyone needs to wear masks and gloves and not more than 10 people in a business at 1 time I’m sorry I’ve said enough thank you for listening .

I totally understand using mask etc.
What I don’t understand that some stores are NOT making this a major request to costumers. I’ve had to actually ask people behind me in line to sept back.People come in and out of markets with no mask. Some one should be walking around stores to make sure people are safe.CONCERN
