A Message from Prescott Mayor Goode-January 3rd

Article audio is made possible by CAST11 Prescott Podcast Network. A Talking Glass Media production.

Prescott Mayor Phil Goode discussed several topics in his updates on Facebook providing important information for the residents of Prescott, Arizona.

Here is the update for January 3, 2022

Here are some of the things I’ll be mentioning today:

  • Prescott Weather
  • Prescott Public Library – Ask James: Drop-In Tech Help
  • Prescott Center for the Arts
  • Arizona Philharmonic
  • Prescott Farmers Market

I hope your New Year celebrations were festive and safe and that everyone is looking forward to a prosperous and happy 2022. Although we can’t predict the future, I have faith that my fellow Prescottonians will work together to restore our community to the friendly, civil, and courteous city we all love.

Prescott Weather

It was pretty cold last week, and we did get some rain and snow, although not as much as was anticipated. This week is looking like it will be partly cloudy but warmer, with temperatures in the 50’s. We can all probably use a little warming up, but remember that weather in January can change almost overnight!

In the meantime, I’m proud of our City staff that worked hard to keep the streets clear last week and make sure you were all informed of the road conditions. If you ever need up-to-date information, you can find it on the City’s website on our Facebook or Instagram.

Prescott Public Library – Ask James: Drop-In Tech Help

The Prescott Public Library is a wonderful community asset. Besides the great selection of reading materials they offer, they have lots of community educational activities for all ages. From Storytime hours for toddlers and preschoolers to a Genealogy Virtual Mentor Session, they truly offer something for everyone. On Mondays at 10 AM they even have a tech assistance program with “Ask James: Drop-in Tech Help”
If you have a New Year’s resolution list, adding another Prescott Public Library resource just might be a great addition!

Visit the Prescott Public Library online for more information about the class offerings available.

Prescott Center for the Arts

One of the things I love the most about Prescott is the wide variety of entertainment choices throughout the community. It’s always a treat to go to a live theater performance.
This week, the Prescott Center for the Arts is presenting, “God of Carnage” in their theatre. This comedy is based on two sets of parents meeting to discuss a schoolyard squabble between their children. Harmony quickly devolves into hostility when everyone’s inner child comes out swinging and the evening descends into hilarious, unmannered chaos.
This is a Tony Award-winning Best Play, and we are fortunate to have a theatre like this here. It’s great to know that they are expanding to offer even more productions to Prescott and the Quad Cities area.
Please check their website at www.pca-az.net for ticket information.

Arizona Philharmonic

Speaking of entertainment, this Sunday at 3 PM, the Arizona Philharmonic is presenting ¡Andalusia! – a dramatic exploration of the music of southern Spain. In addition to the featured concert pieces, they will open with a suite of miniature works for orchestra that were group-composed by area public-school classes, which should be quite interesting.
They offer all the information at their website azphil.org.

Prescott Farmers Market

If you like fresh, farm-to-table food, then the Prescott Farmer’s Market is for you!

The winter market hours are from 10 AM to 1 PM at 900 Iron Springs Road, at the Dignity Health YRMC parking lot.

Besides providing you with locally-grown fresh produce, they also offer support to local farmers and vendors. Did you know that they have a Prescott Seed Library and a Community Compost program?

The Prescott Farmer’s Market mission is to, “…support and expand local agriculture, cultivate a healthy community and increase access to affordable local food.”

They are a 501(c)(3) organization, and it’s great to know that donations stay local.

Visit the Prescott Farmer’s Market website to learn more or to donate!
