This Independence Day is more important than ever as many Americans and citizens of Prescott Valley reflect on what it means to be an American. When I enlisted in the US Army in 1968, Vietnam was a very controversial issue.  I have never been sorry for enlisting and I am very proud to be a Veteran. Being in the Army, I learned to take orders and respect the chain of command. I learned personal responsibility and what it means to serve your country; a cause greater than one person.

Every day, Men and Women serve our country at home and abroad to defend our rights and liberties as Americans. Being in the Army, I became more aware of the 2nd Amendment, and the importance of citizens having the ability to protect themselves.  If the 2nd amendment was ever rescinded, the citizens would not be able to protect themselves from the government or criminals.

We have the right to freedom of speech, which is critical, however, we see a country now that sees this being used to break the law or damage property.  Our current climate needs to change, and we need good citizens ready to serve their community to make that happen.  Our men and women in uniform serving in our community everyday need support. There are always going to be lawbreakers, and we need to hold these people accountable by supporting our police officers. As a Councilmember, I want to make sure the police have the necessary tools to do their job and protect themselves.

Our rights and ability to build the life we want to live is what makes our country and our town great. That’s what drew Judy and I to Prescott Valley and why I want to serve you. We need a council that will keep what makes Prescott Valley special while growing our community for future generations.

Ronald Reagan said, “Freedom is only one generation away from extinction.” That is why I am asking for your vote for Prescott Valley Town Council. I want us to continue freedom for generations to come and keep our town safe and moving into the future. That also means focusing on reaching safe-yield by 2025 and working with the town water experts to ensure the success of the Big-Chino Pipeline. It means a plan to continue working on infrastructure improvements for better roads to sustain our growth.

Finally, it means keeping taxes low and running our government within its means to keep our economy thriving. I hope this Independence Day you can enjoy your time with family and friends to enjoy our town and all it has to offer. Keep your eye out for your early ballot next week and please return it as soon as possible or vote on August 4th for Roger Kinsinger, Conservative for Prescott Valley Town Council.
