People with developmental disabilities who participate in the Mesa Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program will be enjoying a fun outdoor event this month with a day at the lake at Camp Carley.

Camp Carley takes place on Saturday, Aug. 19 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Fool Hollow Lake, near Show Low.
Hosted by the City of Mesa and the City of Chandler, participants will be fishing, hiking, kayaking, enjoying a picnic-style lunch and doing arts and crafts for a day.
Mesa Adaptive Sports and Recreation offers various programs to individuals with developmental disabilities, ages six or older, living in or outside Mesa.
The typical program takes place weekly for up to 12 weeks in a season.
Mesa adaptive programs include:
- Special interest classes
- Outdoor recreation
- Social clubs
- Off-Broadway productions, in partnership with Mesa Public Schools
- Fashion shows
- Adaptive sports such as bocce, soccer, water aerobics and Zumba.
The training schedule for adaptive sport programs is based on the competition schedules as determined by Special Olympics Arizona.
