Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Edward Mezulis to the Valley Academy of Career and Technology Education (VACTE) District Governing Board, representing the Camp Verde School District.

The appointment is effective Friday, October 16, 2020, and will expire on December 31, 2022. The vacancy was due to the resignation of veteran Board Member Steve Pike who has stepped down due to time conflicts. Mr. Pike’s service to the community and the school district is greatly appreciated.

Mr. Mezulis has been a resident of the district, living in Camp Verde for sixteen (16) years. He is married to an elementary educator in Camp Verde and the couple have three (3) children. Two (2) of the children currently attend Camp Verde schools.

Mr. Mezulis graduated from Corona del Sol in Tempe and holds an Associate Arts degree from Coconino Community College (Flagstaff, Az.), a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bellevue University (Nebraska), and a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration, from Grand Canyon University (Phoenix, Az.).

Mr. Mezulis is a Navy veteran and worked for Motorola (Air Products) before joining the Sedona Fire Department twenty (20) years ago. He is now the Division Chief, managing medical services, training, and fleet divisions. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Yavapai College teaching Fire Science.

Superintendent Carter states, “Mr. Mezulis is a long-time resident of the district and as a senior leader with another political subdivision. He is in a unique position to know the issues of both VACTE and the Verde Valley school districts it serves, including governance, finance, personnel, district process and procedures, and the people associated with the other member districts and their programs. I am confident, he will represent the various interests of the community extremely well.”

Mr. Carter posted this position and conducted individual interviews with the applicants, prior to speaking individually with the elected members of the VACTE Governing Board and district administration and with members of the Camp Verde Governing Board and their district administration. Superintendent Carter also appreciates those members of the public who reached out to advise him of their views on the candidates. Mr. Carter may be reached at 928-925-6560 (cell).  Mr. Mezulis may be contacted at 928-301-1138.
