Over 100 kids at the Boys and Girls Club of Central Arizona Fain Family Branch in Prescott Valley at 201 E. Loos Drive have a new place to play as a 10,000 square-foot gym was unveiled.
“It’s been a long time coming and we are so excited now to have a new space for the kids to play and be active,” Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Arizona Interim Executive Director Nicole Kennedy said.
Groundbreaking for the gym took place in July of 2018 and many organizations came together to make this project a reality, such as, the Massie Family, Phoenix Suns Charities, MI Windows and Doors and the Fain Family.
“It’s an exciting time,” Fain Signature Group CEO Brad Fain said. “We’re glad to see that this came to fruition. All the recognition needs to go to Nicole (Kennedy), the Boys and Girls Club and their board for making this happen with a capital campaign.”
“We appreciate the Town of Prescott Valley and their partnership in this project as well,” Fain continued. “It’s been a community effort and we are just excited to be a part of it.”
Members of the Fain family and other local dignitaries got to see how much the new gym meant to the children of the club when kids entered the gym for the first time and immediately began playing a game of basketball.
“The kids were running around and having a lot of fun,” Fain said. “That’s what it is all about. It brings a smile to all of our family’s faces to see these kids really enjoying it.”
Kennedy is already seeing benefits in the short time the gym has been available to kids of the club.
“It’s already been a huge gift because there were almost 100 kids crammed into the existing space prior to having a second space open,” Kennedy said. “It really has made it a lot more conducive to our programs.”
In addition, the Northern Arizona Suns – the G-League affiliate of the Phoenix Suns – will practice in the gym during the team’s off hours.
“This space is really a true community asset for the Town of Prescott Valley and all of its citizens,” Kennedy said.
There will be a bigger, public grand opening for the gym later this year, according to Kennedy, when the NAZ Suns return to town.
