The Embry-Riddle men’s basketball team is looking for a complete turnaround to its conference record from last season, and got that journey off to an excellent start on Monday night. After going into halftime tied with Benedictine Mesa, who went to the NAIA National Tournament last season, the Eagles came out and took away a 72-68 win.

ERAU played an excellent final eight minutes, turning a tied game into what eventually turned into a seven-point lead. After the game was tied at 53 with 8:15 to go, the Eagles went on a 17-10 stretch that built them an insurmountable lead and earned the first conference victory of the season.

Conner Verdugo led the Eagles in scoring on Monday, finishing with 17 points. Conner Verdugo had an excellent first half, as he scored 13 points and also had three rebounds to go along with a pair of assists in the opening 20 minutes.

Christmas Togiai, Jr. and Dennis Pomazanov each finished with 14 points and matching 50% shooting rates. The pair was also a combined 6-6 from the free throw line, and Pomazanov finished two rebounds short of a double-double, grabbing eight.

David Teibo was great on the boards, grabbing ten throughout the night to go along with five points. The Eagles were crashing the glass well, as seven ERAU players to check into the game grabbed at least one rebound.

The Eagles will now have a few days off from games before getting back on the court in Northern California. ERAU will start its road trip on Friday when they visit UC Merced, with tipoff scheduled for 8:30 p.m. AZT.
