PHOENIX — Governor Doug Ducey today issued an Executive Order to bolster the election efforts of Secretary of State Katie Hobbs and election officials across the state by making available additional state assets. The order instructs the Department of Administration to identify State-owned facilities to be utilized as voting locations and to assist counties in providing personal protective equipment (PPE) and other equipment necessary to allow safe hygiene practices when voting. It also enables state employees to serve as poll workers on election day without impacting their pay or leave time, helping ensure polling locations are staffed and lines are kept short.
“Voting is an essential right in our democracy, and Arizona is committed to making sure Arizonans can cast their ballots safely and securely on Election Day,” said Governor Ducey. “Today’s Executive Order will help ensure that our counties have the resources necessary to keep poll workers and voters safe and keep poll locations operating smoothly. I’m grateful to Secretary of State Katie Hobbs for her continued partnership and leadership to ensure a successful election in 2020.”
“Poll workers are crucial to successful elections and help safeguard the integrity of the process,” said Secretary of State Katie Hobbs. “Many of our state’s poll workers are in their 60s and 70s and have performed these duties year after year. Now, we are encouraging the next generation of Arizonans to step up for our democracy by serving as poll workers.”
Arizona’s Primary Election is on August 4, 2020. The General Election will be held on November 3, 2020. Arizonans must register by October 6, 2020, to vote in the General Election.
