The Yavapai College Athletics Department is excited to announce the hiring of Kevon Davis to be the eighth head men’s basketball coach in Yavapai College history.
“I am extremely excited to be here at Yavapai College,” said Davis. “I am looking forward to bringing a lot of energy and excitement to the program and meeting everyone in the community.”
Davis comes to the Roughriders from Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kansas, where he served as the assistant coach since September of 2022. While at Seward, Davis helped the team climb to No. 16 in the NJCAA rankings.
Prior to his time at Seward County, Davis also had assistant coaching stops at University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Indian Hills Community College.
From September of 2016 to April of 2018, Davis was the Director of Player Development at NCAA Division I California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. As the Director of Player Development, Davis monitored team academics, oversaw the strength, conditioning, and nutrition programs, organized community service, and assisted in team travel.
In April of 2018, Davis was promoted to the assistant coach position at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, a post that he held until April of 2019.
Other coaching experience for Davis included two years as an assistant coach at Casper College and four years as an assistant coach at Harcum College in addition to being a Project Manager for Academic Affairs while at Harcum.
As a player, Davis played for two seasons at Harcum College, where he attained his associate’s degree in sports management, and played for two seasons at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in professional studies.
“Coach Davis brings a wealth of basketball experience to Yavapai College and he is ready to lead our men’s basketball program,” Hall of Fame Director of Athletics Brad Clifford said. “I am fired up to have him on our staff and can’t wait to see what he does with this program.”
