Phoenix Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory (September 17th – September 20th)

With the cooler weather setting in, be aware of an uptick in the Arizona Department of Transportation’s road work projects and road restrictions. Be aware and drive safe this weekend!

Please Note: Times listed are approximate and subject to change. Some restrictions may end ahead of schedule. Be an alert driver. Slow down and merge safely in work zones and never drive while impaired.

  1. US 60 EB (Superstition Freeway) closed between Loop 101 (Price Freeway) and Loop 202 (SuperRedTan Interchange) in the East Valley for pavement sealing. Detours: Consider using Loop 202 EB (Red Mountain or Santan freeways) or EB Baseline Rd and Southern Ave as alternate routes. Note: Crews will reopen US 60 EB in segments as work progresses on Saturday. 11:55 p.m. Friday – 11:55 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 18) Note: Times are approximate and subject to adjustment.
  2. US 60 WB (Superstition Freeway) closed between Loop 202 (SuperRedTan Interchange) and Loop 101 (Price Freeway) in the East Valley for pavement sealing. Detours: Consider using Loop 202 WB (Red Mountain or Santan freeways) or WB Southern Ave and Baseline Rd as alternate routes. Note: Crews will reopen US 60 WB in segments as work progresses on Sunday. 11:55 p.m. Saturday – 11:55 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 19) Note: Times are approximate and subject to adjustment.
  3. Loop 101 WB (Pima Freeway) closed between Pima Rd/Princess Dr and Tatum Blvd for widening project. Loop 101 NB on-ramps at Raintree Dr and Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd also closed. Allow extra travel time and expect heavy traffic. Note: Drivers planning to use Loop 101 to travel to Sunday’s Cardinals game should consider alternate routes to avoid delays. Detours: East Valley drivers can consider using Loop 202 WB (Red Mountain Freeway) in Tempe area to SR 51 NB in Phoenix to avoid the Loop 101 closure. Loop 101 NB drivers should consider exiting ahead of the closure and using alternate routes including WB Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd/Bell Rd to SR 51 NB. 10 p.m. Friday – 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 20)
  4. I-10 EB and WB ramps to Loop 101 NB in the West Valley closed for pavement improvement project. I-10 WB on-ramp at 83rd Ave closed. Please allow extra travel time. Detour: Drivers can exit ahead of the ramps closures and detour on local streets. Note: These ramp closures will end by early Sunday morning ahead of Arizona Cardinals game day traffic. 9 p.m. Friday – 5 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 19)
  5. I-17 SB closed overnight between Seventh Ave and Seventh St for work on the new freeway bridge over Central Ave south of downtown Phoenix. I-17 SB on-ramp at 19th Ave also closed. Detour: Drivers should consider using I-10 EB in the downtown Phoenix area to avoid the I-17 closure. 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Sunday through Tuesday nights (Sept. 19-21)
  6. SR 143 SB narrowed to one lane between University Dr and I-10 for improvement project. Detour: Please allow extra travel time and be prepared to slow down and merge safely when approaching the work zone. 3 a.m. – 6 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 18)
