Phoenix’s Pima Freeway Improvement Project (I-17 to Pima Road) – Closures and Restrictions Scheduled through Dec. 13

Drivers who use the Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) between Interstate 17 in Phoenix and Pima Road in Scottsdale should slow down in the construction zone and use caution while the following closures and restrictions are in place.

NOTE: Crews are striping lanes on the westbound Pima Freeway this weekend between Seventh Street and I-17. There will be another closure next weekend (Dec. 10-13) and then no closures or restrictions for the rest of 2021 and New Year’s weekend.

Weekend Closures and Restrictions

Pima Freeway between Seventh Street and Interstate 17

• The westbound Pima Freeway will be closed between Seventh Street and I-17 from 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, for final striping.
  • Detour south of Pima Freeway: Traffic can use westbound Bell Road to northbound I-17 to reach the westbound Pima Freeway.
  • Detour north of Pima Freeway: Drivers can use westbound Deer Valley Road, turn north on Seventh Street, then west on Happy Valley Road, and then head south on I-17 to access the westbound Pima Freeway.

State Route 51 at the Pima Freeway

• The northbound State Route 51 on-ramp to the westbound Pima Freeway will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, for final striping.
  • Detour: Drivers must exit at Black Mountain Boulevard, travel westbound on Deer Valley Drive/Road to northbound Seventh Street, before using westbound Happy Valley Road and southbound I-17 to connect with the westbound Pima Freeway.
  • Alternate Detour: Drivers can also consider using westbound Bell Road, then turn north on I-17 to access the westbound Pima Freeway.

Pima Freeway on-ramps between Cave Creek Road and Seventh Avenue

• The westbound Pima Freeway on-ramps between Cave Creek Road and Seventh Avenue will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, for final striping.
  • Detour: Drivers can use westbound Bell Road, and then northbound I-17 to reach the westbound Pima Freeway.

Pima Freeway between Tatum Boulevard and 64th Street

• The eastbound Pima Freeway will be narrowed to two lanes between Tatum Boulevard and 64th Street from 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, for restriping.

Pima Freeway between Interstate 17 and Seventh Street

• The eastbound Pima Freeway between I-17 and Seventh Street will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13.
  • Southbound Detour: Drivers can use eastbound Union Hills Drive to northbound Seventh Street to access the eastbound Pima Freeway.
  • Northbound Detour: Drivers can use eastbound Happy Valley Road to southbound Seventh Street to access the eastbound Pima Freeway.

Interstate 17 at the Pima Freeway

• The north-and south Interstate 17 ramps to the eastbound Pima Freeway will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13.
  • Southbound Detour: Drivers can use eastbound Union Hills Drive to Cave Creek Road or Seventh Street to access the eastbound Pima Freeway.
  • Northbound Detour: Drivers can use eastbound Happy Valley Road to southbound Seventh Street to access the eastbound Pima Freeway.

27th Avenue at the Pima Freeway

• The eastbound Pima Freeway on-ramp at 27th Avenue will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13.
  • Detour: Drivers can use the westbound Pima Freeway frontage road (Beardsley Road), south on 19th Avenue to eastbound Union Hills Drive and north on Seventh Street to access the eastbound Pima Freeway.

19th Avenue at the Pima Freeway

• The eastbound Pima Freeway on-ramp at 19th Avenue will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13.
  • Detour: Drivers can use eastbound Union Hills Drive to northbound Seventh Street to access the eastbound Pima Freeway.

Seventh Avenue at the Pima Freeway

• The eastbound Pima Freeway on-ramp at Seventh Avenue will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13.
  • Detour: Drivers can use the eastbound Pima Freeway frontage road (Beardsley Road) to Cave Creek Road to access the eastbound Pima Freeway.
