The Pima County Board of Supervisors at its May 17 meeting, approved the locations of 15 Early Ballot drop-off sites that will also serve as Emergency Voting sites for the August 2 Primary Election. Early Voting starts July 6.

People show up at polling locations to cast their votes in the 2020 election on Election Day.

The Board also approved the same sites for Ballot drop-off and Emergency Voting for the November 8 General Election. The vote to approve Emergency Voting and Ballot drop-off sites was done as mandated under state law.

The locations also will be open for voters to request an Early Ballot in person, drop off their completed mail-in ballots or cast emergency ballots. Emergency voting is a process for those who intended to vote in person on Election Day but are unable to do so.

All the sites are staffed by Recorder’s Office personnel. Ballot drop-off boxes have two staff members of different political parties present to monitor the box. The locations follow a strict chain-of-custody protocol for handling voted ballots, as well as extensive ballot security procedures to protect the integrity of the returned ballots. Pima County does not have unstaffed Ballot Drop Off boxes.

In addition to operating as Early Ballot drop-off sites, these same locations will be used as full Early Voting sites. Election officials will provide in-person voting options for voters at these locations. Recorder’s staff verifies the identities of voters before issuing early ballots. Ballots are secured using similar chain-of-custody procedures for a returned early mail ballot.

The Recorder’s east side office will not be used as a location in the 2022 Primary or General elections because of size limitations. An alternative east side location – less than one-quarter of a mile away – will be used instead to accommodate the high volume at that popular site. The new site is Fellowship Bible Church, 6700 E. Broadway.

The Recorder’s Office manages the Early Voting process for all registered Pima County voters. This includes mailing early ballots, operating secure ballot drop-off sites before election day, and providing emergency voting locations.
