Prescott Eagles Fall in Cactus Classic Opener

The Prescott ERAU men’s basketball team hit the court for the first time in a month, and got off to a great start, grabbing an 18-13 lead through the first 12:30 against Montana State – Northern. After scoring its 18th point, the Eagles only scored four more before the half, and could not battle back despite a valiant effort in the final 20 minutes.

It was a tough night from the field for ERAU, making just 15 field goals and going 2-15 from three. During the cold stretch to end the first half, the Eagles made just two field goals, and were outscored 24-4.

Chase Verdugo had an efficient night from the field, making 50% of his shots and tying for the team lead in points. Chase Verdugo contributed defensively as well, grabbing three rebounds and accounting for a pair of steals.

Christmas Togiai Jr. had an identical shooting night from the floor, going 3-6 from the floor and knocking down a shot from behind the arc. Togiai Jr. also grabbed four rebounds and had a steal.

The Eagles play its second game of the Cactus Classic on Sunday afternoon against the University of Providence (Mont.). Tipoff from Chandler-Gilbert Community College is scheduled for 2 p.m.
