After a disappointing result on Friday, the Embry-Riddle baseball team took home a convincing win over one of the more talented teams in the NAIA on Saturday. The Eagles jumped out on The Master’s in the third and fourth innings, and never looked back, winning 8-3 in its final game of the Coach Calderon Invitational.

After the teams traded runs in the first inning, the Eagles scored twice in the third and twice in the fourth to grab a 5-1 lead. The Mustangs responded in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs, but that would be the last time TMU would score.

The Eagles added two more runs in the fifth to get back to a four-run lead, and held a 7-3 advantage until the top of the ninth. ERAU added one more in the top of the ninth and allowed just one hit as a pitching staff after the fourth inning to wrap up the victory.

Aiden Vestbie had a pair of hits and both of those brought in runs for the Eagles. Vestbie drove in the game’s first run, and then singled home Gavin Botts in the top of the third.

The 1-4 spots in the lineup (Botts, Travis Strickler, Vestbie, Roberto Garza-Nunez) all had two hits, and scored six of Embry-Riddle’s eight runs. Calvin Solie also had a pair of hits, going 2-3 with a walk as well.

Mitchell Mussler was solid again in his second start, going five innings, striking out four. Zach Sharp and Cole Altherr combined for a one-hitter in the final four innings, striking out seven total batters without allowing a walk.

The Eagles play another three-game series against a GSAC opponent, this time traveling to the Valley to take on OUAZ. All three games in the series will be at Surprise Stadium, the Spring Training home of MLB’s Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals. Game 1 is set for Thursday, February 3.
