As my first full year as mayor comes to a close and I look back at what has occurred in our great city—I am amazed. It is almost magical to watch our community work in concert to simultaneously enhance and preserve our small town and its western lifestyle. There are too many accomplishments to list, but I would like to highlight my favorites.
Nowhere can the magic of Prescott be seen more clearly than the changes that are occurring at the Prescott Regional Airport. After struggling for years to provide reliable, affordable, and convenient air service to our residents and visitors, United Airlines began daily regional jet service to Los Angeles and Denver in August. This happened because city management and airport director, Dr. Robin Sobotta and her team, would not take “No” for an answer when they pursued their vision of bringing United Airlines to the Quad-City area. Once the new service started the community responded by making Prescott’s new jet service the strongest start ever for United Express. Our dynamic team is already working on making a new airport terminal a reality by 2020.
Next, I want to thank the many citizens who serve on various city committees and commissions. Their input of energy and ideas is what produces the vibrancy that is Prescott. Prescott was recently named Arizona’s “Most Patriotic City” and in keeping with that theme, this year the city formed a Commission of Veterans Initiatives. Made up of respected leaders, the commission’s purpose is to improve community services and resources to meet the needs of those who have served our country.
Lastly, I would like to thank my fellow hard-working council members, and our professional staff, led by City Manager Michael Lamar, for understanding the Prescott vision, and leading the charge in making our community the best place to live in America. As we enter the holiday season, let’s enjoy all that Arizona’s Christmas City has to offer. From the City Council and staff, I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Mayor Greg Mengarelli
