Prescott Valley Police Department Changing Hat & Patch Colors for Breast Cancer, Domestic Violence Awarness

The Goal is to Raise Awareness and Support for Both Campaigns

The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness and Domestic Violence Awareness month. Prescott Valley Police officers have changed the color of their badges and hats to pink and purple for this month with the goal of raising awareness and support for both campaigns.

A pink ribbon is used to promote the awareness of breast cancer, and a purple ribbon represents domestic violence awareness. The police badge has been changed to a pink background with a purple banner and star. Lettering on the police hat has been changed to purple with a purple ribbon.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease. The goal is to raise the public’s awareness of breast cancer, its detection, its treatment, and the need for a reliable, permanent cure.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month was started in 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence as a day of unity to connect advocates for battered women across the country. Domestic violence affects millions, both women and men, of every race, religion, culture, and status. Nearly three out of four Americans personally know someone who is or has been a victim of domestic violence. National Domestic Violence Awareness Month encourages people to take a stand and speak out against domestic violence.

Prescott Valley Police Department wants to encourage and support those affected by breast cancer and domestic violence. If you need assistance or want to talk to someone about domestic violence contact the Prescott Valley Police, Victims of Crime Unit at (928) 772-9261.
