It was just 105 years ago today, January 28, 1915, (though an earlier form was created in 1790) when Congress merged together the Revenue Cutter Service and the U.S. Life-Saving Service and created the U.S. Coast Guard. As a branch of the U.S. military, the Coast Guard has had a long and honorable service history, fighting in every major U.S. war, and on constant guard of our nation’s coasts, preventing anything from drug and human trafficking, to thwarting terrorists’ activities, as well as saving countless lives at sea. Today we celebrate its official birthday, but every day we remember their sacrifice, along with all branches of the Unites States Armed Forces.
