It was just 227 years ago today, January 9, 1793, when the first ever Balloon took off into the skies of America. A Frenchie by the name of Jean-Pierre Blanchard, an early novice in the ideas of balloon flight, took off this very day from the Prison Yard of the Walnut Street Jail in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Amongst the attendees was President George Washington. The balloon flew high for all, and landed safely in New Jersey. Sadly, Blanchard died from falling off a balloon in 1809. On this date, flight history was made, and America would continue to lead the way with so many daring men and women.
