It was just 45 years ago today, July 20, 1977, when a massive flood inundated the Pennsylvania town of Johnstown with water nearly reaching the rooftops of homes. As we in Arizona go through the Monsoons, we must always remember that throughout history, weather has always been deadly, and we must be careful and prepared. During the 19th, a massive rain storm had only added to the already wet conditions in the area.

As the water levels continued to rise, the local dams gave way, sending massive amounts of water throughout the local area, sadly killing 84 people as the wall of debris spread rapidly through the town and local farmland. Millions of dollars of damage occurred, as nothing could stand up to Mother Nature’s wrath. 45 years ago today, a massive flood spread death and devastation, but the people of Johnstown continued on, as we all will during trying times.

What was happening yesterday, on July 19th?
