It was just 130 years ago today, May 19, 1892, when The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the District of Columbia was founded. Thankfully, there are many organizations in our Nation that desperately try and preserve the past for our future. On this date, the Colonial Dames got going. Though this article acknowledges the chapter from D.C., they are actually spread all over the place. Being a male, I can’t take part, however, this organization is simply amazing.
As you’ll note the attached link to this article, this origination is really something, though they try to keep membership with those that can truly trace their linage back to Colonial times, don’t feel left out, for this Nation’s history is for all of us. As this column is dedicated to teaching and preserving history, I ask those interested to take a look at the website. And don’t worry, if you’re not around D.C., I’ve attached the main charter’s website as well. For my male readers, don’t forget there are many ways for you to preserve history as well, such as the Sons of Liberty. 130 years ago, people knew history was worth preserving, it still is.
