Article audio is made possible by CAST11 Prescott Podcast Network. A Talking Glass Media production.

It was just 140 years ago today, October 22, 1879, when the great American inventor Thomas Edison first successfully tested his carbon filament and platina wire incandescent lightbulb. For years many scientists had worked on making an effective lightbulb, but with no commercial success. It was Edison who made it all happen, for 140 years ago today, his lightbulb ran straight for 13.5 hours. A few months later Edison would file for his patent, and soon America and the world would be shinning in the lights.
