It was just 70 years ago today, October 29, 1950, when the U.S. Army’s 7th Infantry Division landed on the east coast of North Korea at the Port of Iwon. When the 1st Marine Division landed at the Port of Inchon, on September 15, 1950, the 7th Division followed behind being teamed with the Marines to form X Corps, under the command of General Edward Almond. When the Marines were pulled out of the line after liberating Seoul for another amphibious operation on the east coast at the Port of Wonsan, the 7th followed behind. With the delay of landing the Marines at Wonsan, the 7th Division proceeded further north to the Port of Iwon, and advanced toward the border with Communist China at the Yalu River.
