It was just 70 years ago today, September 15, 1950, when General of the Army, Douglas MacArthur, launched one of his boldest and audacious operations in his military career. After almost three months of desperate combat against the invading army of Communist North Korea, the U.S. Marines landed at the South Korean port of Inchon, several miles behind the front lines.

This Day in History, history, American History

It was a total and complete success, as the Marines advanced and liberated the South Korean Capital of Seoul, cutting off the North Korean army far to the South. Within a week, the invading army disintegrated, with the survivors fleeing for their lives, with the Armies of the United Nations close on their heels.
