Freshman forward Evan Joyner picked up where he left off after Monday’s game as he notched seven of the first nine YC points of Tuesday night’s game. After another Joyner three-pointer, coupled with a couple of alley-oops from sophomore guard Dayton Harris to sophomore center Mandell Campbell, the Roughriders built a 19-12 lead to start things off.
The Skyhawks stormed back, however, and took a brief 24-22 lead, before sophomore guard Ezekiel Spann went in for a slam dunk to tie the contest up.
The teams went back and forth throughout the rest of the first half until the Riders put the contest out of reach with the long ball.
With just over two to play in the half, sophomore guard Josh Favors drilled a three-pointer to give YC a 36-33 lead. On the next possession, sophomore guard Kenan Andrews hit from downtown for a 39-35 lead, and freshman guard Cardell Bailey made it three-consecutive possessions with a three-pointer when he hit his third of the half for a 42-35 Yavapai lead with just over a minute to play in the half.
Neither team scored in the final minute of the first and the teams went into the break with the Roughriders leading 42-35.
In the second half, Bailey and Favors continued their monster games as each notched a trio of three-pointers while Bailey scored 14 and Favors scored 13 in the half.
With the duo knocking everything down, the Roughriders built a 67-47 lead and were able to coast to victory with 92-75 being the final.
Overall, Bailey led the way with 23 points on the night while Favors had 18, Joyner had 16, Spann had nine, Harris had eight and Campbell had eight.
Andrews also chipped in three points while sophomore guard Devon Bryant Jr. tallied six points.
