Prescott, AZ – Recognizing the need to place skilled workers in high-demand positions as unemployment remains high in Arizona and across the country, Yavapai College is offering a series of programs and classes designed for one semester or less that can connect students who successfully complete with a skill set that makes them desirable to employers in areas with high job demand in Yavapai County.

Yavapai College understands that traditional length programs aren’t for everyone, and that not every student has their sights set on continuing to a four-year university. Some students want to acquire their skills and connect to the job market as quickly as possible, so YC identified courses and programs covering 15 areas of study with high job demand in Yavapai County.

They include career and technical education programs, such as automotive, electrical, welding, CNC, CDL truck driving, solid works, and construction. Business certificates in bookkeeping and basic office certificate, an early childhood education certificate, and health certificates in EMT, nursing, caregiver, and phlebotomy.

Paying for education can be a stumbling block for many who are entertaining the idea of going to school, but Yavapai College has several mechanisms available to keep costs down: from the traditional scholarships, grants and payment plans to the newly distributed funds for students as part of the federal CARES Act.

For those who may be daunted by the process of registering for school, Yavapai College’s Advising department is holding drop-in advising for all students who need help registering for classes. Drop-ins are not scheduled appointments, but are first come, first served. Simply call the YC advising department at 928-776-2106 and ask to be placed on a phone drop-in list. The first available advisor will assist you. Drop-In Advising is available through Friday, Aug. 21.
