In the tournament, Yavapai had run-ruled their previous opponents beating Eastern Arizona College on Thursday, 17-2 and Arizona Western College, 14-2. Saturday’s game looked like another run-rule shortened result as the Riders took a 6-0 lead after the first inning.

Arizona Western got on the board in the second inning posting two runs. YC responded with a single run in their half of the inning. Arizona Western scored two more runs in the third inning and Yavapai added another run in the bottom of the third inning making the score 8-4

The Roughriders added another single run in the bottom of the fifth inning and three more in the bottom of the sixth inning. Since the run-rule is not in effect in Championship games, the game went into the seventh inning. AWC scored a run in the seventh inning but Emily Dix got the final out to secure the Championship.

YC had 14 hits led by Mia Weckel and Kayla Rodgers who had 3 hits each. Mikaela Payne and Esperanza Rodriguez had two hits apiece. Payne and Bella Porreco knocked home runs.

Emily Dix started the game but gave way to Kamryn Kamakaiwi. Kamakaiwi threw 3.1 innings of scoreless innings. Dix returned to the game to throw the final 7 outs of the game.

For her efforts, Mia Weckel was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament. The Las Vegas native was 8 for 10 with 7 runs scored, 3 runs batted 2 doubles and a home run.

Yavapai now advances to the NJCAA National Tournament May 25-29 in Yuma, AZ. The tournament bracket has not yet been released.
