In December, Tempe-based band Palomas’ debut Christmas single, which was produced by Grammy-winning, multi-platinum producer Mikal Blue, was met with instant success. The song, Missing Mistletoe, made it all the way to No. 3 on Hypeddits Top 100 Indie List, received more than 51,000 streams, and remains in the top five into 2022.

“We’re really humbled by the fact that our first-ever Christmas song proved to be so relatable and popular,” says Joe Gonzalez, lead vocalist of the band. “Even though it’s a holiday song, we think the message of being stuck in a situation you don’t want to be in resonates with people. Things will always be the same if you don’t leave and make a change.”

In addition to Gonzalez, Palomas is comprised of Sam Otterson, co-lead vocals and guitar; Victor Sese, drums; Josh Browning, lead guitar; and Dane Hess, bass. The band was initially formed by Gonzalez and Sese, grade school friends who began playing together at the age of 11. Other members joined the band in high school, which is when they wrote Missing Mistletoe.

Palomas is scheduled to perform at Tempe’s beloved Marquee Theatre on Jan. 14.
